Living Each Day to the Fullest

A few days ago, I received an email from the husband of one of my readers, informing me that his wife had passed away a month ago. She had won a contest to have lunch with me about a year ago, and he wanted to thank me for taking the time to make her day special. Little did I know on the day we shared conversation over lunch, that she was ill and would soon be leaving her earthly home. Had I known, I might have spent even more time with her. Had I known, maybe there would have been more I could have said.

Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing when we or a loved one will pass on. However, we can, and should, live each day as though it’s our last, making the most of each moment and living each day to the fullest. None of us wants to live with regrets, wishing we had said or done something for or with a friend or family member. Instead of taking people for granted, I want to show all the love I can to my family, friends, and everyone God sends my way.

As a song in my church hymn book says, “Make me a blessing. . . Make me a blessing. . . Make me a blessing to someone today.” Is there someone you need to bless? Has someone blessed you in a special way?

  4. Wanda I should call my sister in Canada more often. Time is something we seem to take for granted, isn’t it? We think we have a lot of time ,but it goes so quickly. Thanks for the reminder. When you lose someone you love than its too late to go back. All that’s left is the I should haves or the why didn’t I ?

  5. Wanda, your blog post today is a blessing to me! We all need to keep in mind that others may be suffering with something in their lives, whether it;s health-related, financial hardship, loneliness, depression, and the list goes on. It only takes a moment of time to reach out to others and offer encouragement and prayer. Let us show we are Christians by our love!

  7. I truly enjoy your monthly newsletters and love hearing about your travel adventures. I so wish I had a close Amish friend I could enjoy writing or talking to. I missed you last month here in Ohio as I will be going back to Millersburg, Charm and Baltic on the 19th. of this month. I will watch for your next visit here in Ohio and will make sure I request that day off. I pray you have a safe but enjoyable trip to Pennsylvania and return home safely.. Any advice as to how I can start a friendship with the Amish?

Last night on the news there was a man who shot himself in the heart with a nail gun. He will be fine but his wife said she her first thought “Was I nice to him this morning?”

  10. Thanks Wanda for your website about spending time with people. I just retired after 45 years. The first thing I am doing is spending quality time with my friends who I have not seen in a while. I have put off seeing friends who has passed away this year and it has made me realize how quickly time passes. Since this is the start of a new year I am going to talk and see all my wonderful friends and make a lot of new ones. Thank you. I am a new reader of your books and really enjoy them. Happy New Year to you and your husband.

  11. After a trying and problem filled 2 years, I have come to know how important God is in my life. He has always been there, but sometimes I would just take Him for granted and would only call on him when another crisis arose. I now have come to the realization that He is always with me and that I should be thankful for everyday that he is by my side so now I thank Him for this every day. Without him, I do not believe that I would have survived a tramatic event that occurred July 2012, but He has been by my side every day and I feel His peaceful existence and I know that he is here always.

  13. Wanda, I am a survivor of 4 different cancers and also deal with many other medical issues. I made up my mind when I was diagnosed with the first cancer and under went a bone marrow/stem cell transplant at the age of 37 in 1992 that I would live each day to its fullest and not sit and wait for ‘the axe to drop’. I have parasailed in Israel, cruised all over the world, rode a camel, swam in the Dead Sea, visited half of the states in the United States and done a lot on my bucket list. I sew much of my own clothes, quilt, and am a music teacher of flute and piano by trade. I am always taking classes to learn something new or improve on what I know already. I get up each day and my favorite motto is, “If the sun is out, nothing can go wrong today”. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and two fabulous sons who are professionals themselves. I am also blessed to have wonderful, caring friends that have been with me through laughter and tears and have taught me what life is all about.
