A Note From Wanda

When Richelle considered what it might be like for a young Amish woman to become interested in ballet, the concept of The Amish Ballerina was born. Given that my granddaughter had begun ballet lessons at the age of seven, Richelle felt as though she could provide some insight on the world of dance and why certain people have an interest in performance and creativity.

Richelle and I also considered how it would be for our main character if she decided not to join the Amish church in order to pursue her love of dance.

Another interesting aspect we included in the book is the enjoyment some Amish young people experience when they belong to a drill team where they ride on horseback and perform various routines at local functions and charity events. It was fun to set this novel in Shipshewana, Indiana, where we have many Amish friends.
